About the coffee
Situated within the Tenza Valley, part of the Cundiboyacense high plateau in theColombian Andes, this coffee-growing region resides on the eastern side of the range. The area features steep, mountainous terrain and a single plateau where cultivation takes place. These geographic features result in abrupt elevation changes, ranging from 1,500 masl to a maximum altitude of 3,400 masl at the hill of La Laguna. The region boasts an average temperature ranging from 16 to 17°C, with an annual rainfall of 1500 to 2000 mm. The soil composition is defined by clay characteristics, providing an optimal environment for coffee cultivation.
This coffee falls under our Miraflores Selection, which means ‘behold the flowers,’ a tribute to the rich diversity of regional Colombian coffee production. All lots are sourced from Colombia’s finest coffee growing departments, bringing stunning seasonal and regional freshness to the fore. Regions such as Tolima, Antioquia, Risaralda, Nariño, Cauca, Cundinamarca and Huila offer unique and diverse flavour profiles conditioned by the terroir within their boundaries.
The primary coffee varieties in the region are Castillo, Colombia, Caturra and Typica. The cherries are harvested using a selective hand-picking method. Each coffee grower operates their own washing station, where they pulp and ferment the coffee for 24 to 36 hours, before proceeding with drying.
Post-harvest milling and grading are overseen by the Bogotá milling plant. Subsequently, the coffee is packaged in fique sacks for export. Growers in the region cultivate various agricultural products such as corn, bananas, potatoes and beans, to enrich the agricultural landscape.
